Randy Olsen Receives Scholarly Communication Award

Randy Olsen, BYU Library Director, was honored by BioOne and the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) with its inaugural Howard Goldstein Award to Advance Scholarly Communication. The award was presented to Olsen April 16, 2009, at a special ceremony in conjunction with BioOne’s annual meeting of publishers, librarians, and partners. The Goldstein award was created in 2008 to recognize and encourage efforts to enhance the sustainability of communication within the scholarly community. Randy J. Olsen has held leadership positions in the Utah Library Association, the American Library Association, Research Libraries Group, Greater Western Libraries Association, Mountain Plains Library Association, and Utah Academic Library Council. He currently chairs the Library and Scholarly Communications Advisory Council at Brigham Young University and currently serves as a member of the Steering committee for SPARC.

New UVU Library Featured in "American Libraries"

The Utah Valley University Library was featured in the April 2009 issue of the American Library Association's (ALA) American Libraries magazine. UVU Library was one of 23 new and renovated academic, public and school facilities showcased in the publication's yearly Library Design Showcase. University of North Texas MLS Program is Coming to Utah

The University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences Master of Library Science program is coming to Utah. The next Nevada-Utah Cohort for the online program will begin in September 2009. Students can earn a master’s degree by participating in two four-day institutes (September 4 - 7, 2009 and January 15- 18, 2010), with the remainder of the instruction delivered on the web. The Web Institute will be held at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah in the new library. Information about the program can be found at:
